Trip of a Lifetime

Many of you know Laura Thompson, our Ada County Property Manager. She is a wonderful part of our team, a hard worker and a friend to us all at Capital Group. Last year we learned of a very real and personal struggle that Laura has been dealing with. Her husband, Gordon Thompson was diagnosed with terminal cancer a little over a year ago. Laura and Gordon have been happily married for almost 25 years and through this struggle have remained in good spirits.

Shortly after Laura joined the Capital Group team we held a customer service contest and the grand prize was round trip airfare to anywhere in the continental U.S. Laura saw this as an opportunity to take Gordon, a huge NASCAR fan, to his very first live race. Laura blew everyone out of the water and won the tickets!

Laura’s determination to go above and beyond for her husband inspired everyone at Capital Group to do more. It’s a wonderful story of perseverance that we’ve been encouraged to share. It is best told through Scott Evans, a Channel 7 News reporter:

Laura & Gordon

“Our trip was amazing! Capital Group and NASCAR gave my family an experience of a lifetime”, Laura told us when they returned. ”Our love and thanks to everyone at Capital Group for making this dream come true for Gordon! I can't say enough about Paul Brooks of NASCAR, Billie Maudlin of MRO, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Carl Edwards… what a fantastic group of men! I will be forever grateful for all that you did for my family.”

We truly appreciate Laura and the Thompson family. From all of us at Capital Group, we wish them the very best.

Property taxes to high?...

The good news is that it’s not too late to do something about it. By now you have probably received your property assessment in the mail. These assessments are based on your properties estimated value on January 1, 2010; they are the basis for determining this year's taxes. If you feel the value of your property may be overstated, now is the time to take action.

We would be happy to review your property tax bill and assessment with you and determine if a reduction of assessed value is necessary. If it is, then we can help you appeal the assessed value of your property which may in turn help lower your taxes. Our sales division has experience in evaluating, appealing and correcting some over-appraised properties for our clients. We have helped many of our clients in the past with comparable sale data to support their property tax appeal. We would be happy to assist you as well.

Contact me today for more information. Time is of the essence as appeals must be submitted by June 28th at 5:00pm.

Have A Four Legged Family Member?

Many of us at Capital Group are avid animal lovers and we know first hand how much joy and love a pet can bring into your life. Are you thinking about adding a pet to your family? At Capital Group we generally welcome pets with a pet agreement and pet deposit. Call your property manager for more information as we do have some breed, age, and weight restrictions.

Do you have a furry friend that deserves a treat? Show them you care by baking our favorite
“Peanut Butter & Bacon” doggie snacks!

½ package bacon cut into thin pieces
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
½ cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375'F. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Fully cook bacon and mix bacon with hot grease, peanut butter and milk in a separate bowl. Add to dry ingredients and mix well. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll dough to ¼ inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Bake for 20 minutes on a greased baking sheet until lightly brown. Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container.

Air Filters - An Easy Way to Save Money

Summer is almost here and with it comes hot dry days and breezy summer nights. Your air conditioner will most likely become your new best friend as temperatures continue to sky rocket.

When was the last time you changed your air filter? Forgetting to change your air conditioner filters on a regular schedule affects your wallet, affects your lungs and affects the environment. Air filters play a major role in the operation of a working air conditioner and is the most common cause of air conditioners under performing.

It’s an easy fix and one you should check every 30 days to ensure a clean and operating air conditioner. Need help finding your air filter? Call and ask for our maintenance department at 208-639-1717. Click Here to set up email reminders as well as decide on what filter is right for your home.
